Run On Banks: Greece

Fear is a powerful motivator. If my money was going to drop 50% I'd take it out ASAP, wouldn't you? Run on banks started in Greece ... It is imperative that we all understand that just because the global financial system works a certain way today does not mean that it must always work that way...Read more at The Bank Runs in Greece Will Soon be Followed by Bank Runs in Other European Nations If you have a few minutes, watch an incredible speech by a 12-year-old Canadian girl named Victoria Grant.

While Wall Street hangs on every quarterly GDP report, monthly jobs number, and weekly jobless claims tally (all of which get revised significantly later on anyways), there are much bigger trends that reveal a lot more about the economy and the markets. One of the most important is disposable income. If 70% of the economy is consumer spending, you can bet how much money consumers hav...

A Message to Occupy Wall Street

图片
Dear Occupy Wall Street, I completely understand your anger and commend you for having the courage to do something about it. Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company  said nearly a century ago , " It is well that the people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. " And that was before the government financial system really got good at stealing from and impoverishing us.  Today, if we all really had any idea as to what has been done to us by the system there’d be 6.8 billion people involved in these protests.   However, there is a very, very important piece of the puzzle that you have missed completely. In order to understand why, you have to realize one thing.  You have been brainwashed. Don’t feel too bad, we all have been. Thomas Pynchon said, " If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about the answers. "...

Thinking the Unthinkable in Europe

图片
Kidnapping the world with a structured and well planned financial crisis? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thinking the Unthinkable in Europe ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Measures will have to be taken to prevent a financial meltdown in the eurozone as a whole. First, bank deposits must be protected. At the same time, the European banking system would have to be recapitalized and put under European, as distinct from national, supervision. Finally, government bonds issued by the eurozone’s other deficit countries would have to be protected from contagion. The last two requirements would apply even if no country defaulted. So there is no alternative but to create the missing component: a European treasury with the power to tax and, therefore, to borrow . This would require a new treaty,...

Riots

Some coverage on food, financial mess, riots... The haves and have-nots Whatever the cause, what we have seen is how socially excluded groups of people have take to the streets and for that suddenly been given the time of day by the media, those in authority and the world is paying attention – willingly or unwillingly. Large generations of Malaysian young adults enter the workforce with a heavy load of debt for basic needs and are unable to buy homes and cars without their parents help. What will then happen to the next few generations? Will they have to pay off a generational debt? Sukuk and Bond

图片
Two interesting yet somehow related news: 1. Innovative sukuk offering - The global offering - the first to be structured on wakala principles - has set many milestones 2. Greek bailout Mark II - it's a default It's about the whole "Euro-PIIGS" crisis (that's Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain, for those you who were on vacation for the past 18-months or so), and note the difference in "interest rate" for the "borrowings" below: On one hand, The sukuk, which was assigned a credit rating of A- by Standard & Poor’s and A3 by Moody’s, was offered in two tranches with the five-year US$1.2bil (RM3.6bil) paper priced at 2.991%, and the 10-year US$0.8bil (RM2.5bil) at 4.646%. On the other hand, The situation in Italy is serious. At US$262bil, total sovereign claims by international banks on Italy exceeded their combined sovereign exposures to Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain, which totalled US$226bil...the yield o...

Blood-in-the-streets Investing : Buy Fear and Sell Greed

Quote from the 1800's, by the father of a still-prominent banking dynasty: The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets. ~ Baron Rothschild My readers and I buy fear and sell greed. This is "blood-in-the-streets investing," pure and simple. The 19th century banking magnet Baron Von Rothschild is credited with saying, "The time to buy is when blood is flowing in the streets, even if it's your own." He made a fortune buying Paris real estate after Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo. The idea is quite simple: When everyone is selling and no one is buying, the price must be low. Furthermore, when the buyers return — and buyers always return to true value — they will pay a premium as they rush back in. Crisis and Opportunity will coolly buy when others sell in panic... and sell back to them when the herd changes direction and tells each other, "Now is a smart time to buy." On the other hand, if you have the head to coolly buy fro...

7 Signs That China’s ‘Bubble Economy” Is About to Burst

图片
7 Signs That China’s ‘Bubble Economy” Is About to Burst — and What That Means for the Rest of Us If you follow the mainstream financial media, you’re probably under the impression that all the problems threatening the U.S. economy today are homegrown — and that China is about to “eat our lunch.” Don’t believe it. The reality is, despite its very real progress over the last three decades, China in recent years has been pursuing policies that in many ways duplicate the very same mistakes that led to the U.S. financial crisis — and will lead to a very similar outcome. Only this time, the broader effects on the global economy — and on the U.S. in particular — could be worse. Much worse. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that China will never be the global economic superpower many are predicting. What I am saying is that there will be some big bumps in that road — and that one of the biggest is about to knock the wheels off the Chinese juggernaut. Again, this is not my opinion alone. ...

Sir John Templeton's 10 Maxims

图片
Invest for real returns The true objective for any long-term investor is maximum total real return after taxes. Keep an open mind Never adopt permanently any type of asset or any selection method. Try to stay flexible, open minded and skeptical. Long term top results are achieved only by changing from popular to unpopular the types of securities you favour and your methods of selection. Never follow the crowd If you buy the same securities as other people, you will have the same results as other people. It is impossible to produce superior performance unless you do something different from the majority. Buying when others are despondently selling and selling when others are greedily buying requires the greatest fortitude and pays the greatest reward. Everything changes Bear markets have always been temporary. And so have bull markets. Avoid the popular When any method for selecting stocks becomes popular, you will need to switch to unpopular methods. Learn from your mist...

The Next Crash?

图片
This is a chart (click to enlarge) of the S&P 100 (OEX), marked off in monthly candlesticks: On it, I've noted the parameters of the overarching bear trend that has subtly governed investor behavior for the past decade. I've also marked in the Stacked Sell Signals of 2000 and 2008 that warned of the dramatic cyclic downturns to come. Please note we are approaching the exact same technical and economic threshold that presaged both previous crashes. So the question at hand is not "will there be another downturn," but rather "when and how deep?" As I mentioned a moment ago, I have also laid in the Fed's two free money "QE" programs . As you can see, these efforts are pretty much the only thing that kept the markets from collapsing early in the cycle . But now they are part of the warp and woof of our little tapestry, and as such, are creating mini-cycles of their own. The Worst Choice Washington is now faced with a horrid choice: ...

The Illusion of Wealth

图片
Our entire system's been based on the illusion of wealth. If you've watched, listened to, or even simply read highlights from presidential press conferences lately, you'll notice they've stricken a word from their vocabulary... Recession . Not once in the past several weeks has the administration used the term to describe our current economy. Instead, they've replaced it with recovery. And with the first accusation that things aren't better yet, they'll instantly point out the strength of the Dow and other indexes across the financial spectrum as proof that what they're doing is working. Sure. The Fed's made up “Quantitative Easing” and QE2 “worked”. Just take a look at what happened to the Dow: It looks good... until you take a look at how our money supply's skyrocketed over the same period: This isn't a coincidence. The entire past two years of gains... the rise of the market from March 2009 until now... has been a result of...

The Titanic's Cognitive Dissonance

图片
On April 10th, 1912, the largest, most robust ocean liner of its time, the RMS Titanic, set out on its maiden voyage. Thanks to White Star Line's advertisements of the ship claiming to have scores of fail safes and water-tight compartments, it was dubbed unsinkable. Required lifeboats on board were stripped to carry only about half of the passengers, and were there more for show than anything else... Four days later, on the night of April 14th, 1,517 passengers would learn a hard lesson. A little after 11:30pm, the ship hit the infamous iceberg, poking several holes into the ship's hull, far beneath the surface... The next two hours defined three types of people: The few who sprung into action and either jumped on lifeboats, or took whatever buoyant material they could find and made their own. Those who knew they had to do something; but instead of working on anything productive, they panicked. The majority that, after hearing the loud screeches and feeling the tr...

You've Fallen for the Most Destructive Sleight of Hand of All Time

图片
Neo, sooner or later you're going to realize, just as I did, that there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path. ~ Morpheus, The Matrix It's no secret that the U.S. dollar — or Federal Reserve Note — is the world's reserve currency. It's been that way since 1944, when the dollar was backed by gold... A time when the United States held more than 50% of the world's gold reserves. A time when the U.S. produced more than 55% of the entire world's manufactured goods. Of course, times have changed... Since 1971, our dollar hasn't been backed by anything other than the fact that it is the world's reserve currency. Today (2011), we only produce 27% of the world's manufactured goods. America also holds less than 25% of the world's gold reserves. And on September 30th, 2011, our national debt will exceed more than 102% of our GDP.

In many ways, history is only repeating itself. Note: Japan currently (2011) has more debt per GDP than any other country at 225%.

200 Years of Remarkable Progress (video)

图片
All across the world we are seeing signs of economic chaos—rioting, inflation, sovereign debt downgrades and massive volatility in the world's stock markets and commodity prices. These are not the problem, these are only symptoms of the problems that are facing almost every country in the world today. In my opinion, these "symptoms" are likely to get much worse than better in the months ahead. You have the choice as to whether these problems will crush you or make you rich. Because this is a world-wide challenge, it requires an international response. ~ Robert Kiyosaki 200 years of remarkable progress - World-wide Challenge Requiring International Response:

The Day After The Dollar Crash

图片
The new normal feels anything but normal. Yet, all around us the rules are changing - about how we make a living, how we care for our loved ones and how we can survive and thrive in these interesting times. In the book The Day After The Dollar Crash, you'll find some of Damon's ideas about how to get on the right side of the New World Order that is on the horizon. You'll find: Where to focus for personal growth Suistainable and socially responsible investments moving forward How to profit from the coming social changes It's not just about a falling dollar , or simply inflation and currency devaluation , but a new world order. The Flying McCoy comics below somehow made me connect them up with the above mentioned situation. They may be funny, but I hope you get the message behind. Colonel is Watching... Sorry, it's not that we can't put you back together... it's that the King's Health Care Plan doesn't cover it! Here's a "fi...
